Abandoned vehicles
We work in partnership with Sussex Police to ensure the prompt removal of abandoned vehicles via Operation Crackdown under the Road Traffic Act 1984.
A vehicle is considered abandoned when:
- It is untaxed or SORNed on public land
- It is taxed but has not moved for four weeks
How to report an abandoned vehicle
To report a vehicle online, you will need:
- The precise location (road name and neighbourhood)
- Registration of vehicle
- Make
- Model
- Colour
What happens next
An officer will inspect and photograph the vehicle and submit their report to the police via Operation Crackdown.
We will write to the registered keeper requesting that they move the vehicle. If they don’t reply the vehicle will be moved into storage for seven days, after which it will be disposed.
